3 credits
A hands-on approach to learning the advanced technical skills required behind the scenes to create a broadcast or streaming video show in a professional broadcast environment. Students work as part of a technical team to create, support, and publish live news shows and specials. Students will practice creating graphics with Ross Xpression, operating the production switcher and camera, and directing talent on the floor. In addition, focus is placed on learning the technical aspects of a Computer Newsroom System, with Ross Inception, Streamline, and Streamline Play. Students learn to work under deadline pressures. This course adopts the "hospital model of journalism education." As the Confucian philosopher Xunzi put it, "I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand." Education thrives through learning by doing.
