This course grapples with the complex historical partnership between rhetoric/writing/language and social movements across time and place. We will examine rhetoric in service of social, political, cultural, environmental, and local/community change by looking at and developing a range of communicative forms used by various social movements, such as manifestos, poetry, allegories, essays, editorials and political statements, films, speeches, wall writing, testimonials, performances, posters, and zines.
